“Everyone’s life is so valuable, everyone has a story if you just listen.”
If you were heading down Beach Ave. in Saco, it’d be hard to miss Beachway Market. Geoff and Tracy Burr have been the owners for 26 years and the 29th of December will mark their 27th year.
Geoff’s interest in owning a store flourished when he was working for CVS in highschool. He was working for a man by the name of Ken Lord, who Geoff said, “heled model, shape and guide me.” Geoff and Tracy have five children together, who have all worked in the store whether they were running the register counting back change (without a machine) or greeting and iterating with customers.
Tracy said, “the support from the community can get you through the toughest of times.” When their son, Josh, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, they were the recipients of abundant kindness from their community. “It’s been 4 years since Josh’s diagnosis and the sincerity of our customers and their concern for his health has often left us speechless. We are filled with immense gratitude - the community has gone above and beyond to support us and our family.”
When we asked the Burr’s what’s been the most rewarding part of owning the store, you may not be surprised that they echo each other in saying , “our customers.” Tracy continued, “over the years we’ve really gotten to know our customers. We have our regulars who come in daily, and the passerby. I think it’s important to note that every person’s life is so valuable. Everyone has a story if you just listen.”
