Well known for being a family store - the little big store - Landry’s holds true to their roots; the little neighborhoods and people that know each other. When a 96 year old customer called Louis Grenier, the store’s General Manager, she was anxious, frightened and not sure what to do to remain safe and healthy if she left her home to go to the grocery store. Louis asked for her order, and told her to arrive in an hour. Her groceries were gathered, purchased and packed for curbside service. Once he realized the need in the community, Louis started offering the service at the store. Shoppers would call in their orders for curbside pickup, and Landry’s completed and delivered to their cars with no fees! Louis said, “Folks were so gracious and would oftentimes leave donations or tips, which we’ve donated back to organizations in the community. We still have around 60 customers utilizing the service.” Pictured are Nicole (right) and Teddi (left) completing a curbside order for 88 and 89 year old Mr. & Mrs. Bayles.
Louis notes that the biggest change he’s seen in people is their support and appreciation of each other. Long lines and waiting are the new norm. The hustle and bustle rush is gone, so the impatience often displayed is not there anymore. Louis said, “I hope things will calm down and people will walk away from this taking a long, hard look at the ‘new normal’; I think people will be more cautious. I hope from a business standpoint, small businesses can recover and can resume operations.”
Recognizing and enjoying the good qualities of people is something Landry’s does often and Louis reiterated, “It’s remarkable the way the associates have stepped up and taken ownership. They’ve volunteered unselfishly to do whatever we needed to have done, and for that we could not be more grateful.”
Aisle-by-aisle, department-by-department, they keep the cases and shelves filled, and help us complete our weekly mission to restock our closets and pantries. They are cashiers, stock clerks, butchers and bakers, and they work day and night to keep our community well-supplied, and our dining tables full.
Thank you, Landry’s Shop N Save, for being the #HeartAndSoulOfTheCommunity.
