For the longest time I put off doing something for myself. I guess the deterrent was the fear of failure. Then, I learned that failure is the first attempt in learning. Even if I were to fail, I’d know what not to do the next time.
I pride myself on being different and believe that our children need to find ways to express themselves. In many cases, they like to identify in their own ways, one of which is clothing. I’d shop for my twin girls at the mall and one day, they saw another girl with the same exact outfit on. Kendall said to me, “When Kassy dresses like me, it's ok, but I don't like to see other people wearing the same thing as me.” It inspired me to start an online boutique because I wanted to alleviate the sense of same-ness she was feeling. That’s really how Klassically Kute Designs was born.
The business started solely online. We are a military family and we’ve lived a lot of places. When duty called us to Maine, we instantly liked it. I’d started doing pop-up shows at the Mall and discovered that Mainer’s really liked to touch and feel the material of the clothing. I explored opening a retail location and found a spot on Main Street in Biddeford that would soon become my boutique. The ultimate goal for the boutique is to bring unique, quality and affordable children's clothing and accessories to Biddeford and the surrounding areas.
I didn’t let the fear stop me. I want to be able to raise more awareness for brands and clothes I carry because there’s nothing like this around here. If I keep pushing forward, we will thrive because I won’t give up.
This was the right choice. I will create a legacy for my children; having the boutique is just the start.
