That little boy changed my life that day, and I knew I didn’t want to live a life of “I wish I had…” or “Why didn’t I…”
I was in Walmart when I met a 5 year old little boy. I said hello to him and he somberly replied. When I looked up at his Mom she mouthed “cancer” to me. When I left the store, the memory of that moment with that little boy stuck with me. I’ve been involved in law enforcement all my life and when that Mom saw my photo in the newspaper, she called me and told me her son had passed away when he was 7.
In 2009 I decided to host an Oldies dance for the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), naturally inspired by that little boy. I was a DJ in the 60’s which took me to Germany and allowed for some cool life experiences; but nothing has been as fulfilling as these dances. We have sold out every year since 2009, and in 2011, we decided to host two dances. Every single penny raised goes to RMHC and so far, we’ve raised $70,000 from these dances.
I’m so committed to this dance, the mission at RMHC and continuing to honor the memory of the little boy who was the inspiration behind it all. I’ll continue doing this until I’m 6 feet underground.
