I started volunteering at Maine Needs last February and I just fell in love with it. It serves as a way for me to connect with people and being here really boosts my spirit. I still volunteer every Monday and doing this work has renewed my faith in the world.
Our non-profit strives to help individuals and families in Maine meet their basic material needs. We partner with schools, caseworkers, nurses and nonprofits to provide donated clothing, hygiene products, household items and other necessities. Items come and go, so we’re always evolving and changing our interior space.
The reality is that there are still many gaps in social services and other assistance programs, so the efforts and initiatives of Maine Needs are absolutely integral to the wellbeing of our community members. We’re here to listen to the needs of the community and do what we can to help.
Being a volunteer at Maine Needs is great because the people who assist in our efforts are so positive and they bring such wonderful energy. The in-person, volunteer dynamics are really incredible because everyone wants to be here and wants to help.
We’re so accommodating to anyone and everyone that wants to help, no matter their age, skill set or hours of availability. Some people come in several days a week while others volunteer twice a month for an hour each time. Some people pick up and deliver items halfway across the state while others come in just to take cardboard to the recycling center.
Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, has a huge impact.
