Baking Entrepreneurs. Identical Twins. Inseparable.
Just a few ways to describe twin sisters Angela Lowell and Colleen St. Ours, owners of Twin.Cakes in Biddeford.
While in high school, the duo presented a business plan to their parents. Raised by a family of entrepreneurs (their parents, along with four other siblings all started their own businesses), it came as no surprise the girls were on the same path. Opening their own bakery was a fleeting thought, but the twins wanted to continue the homemade traditions from the kitchen where it all started.
“Baking at home creates a different dynamic. We started with our Mom at 3 years old,” said Colleen “It’s a different feel than going to a bakery every day.”
Angela followed-up saying, “A lot has changed since we were kids, but one thing that's remained is the kitchen; it looks almost exactly the same. We made a lot of memories with our Mom and we feel so lucky we are a home based business.”
When Colleen married her husband Austin, Angela took on the role of “baker of honor” and prepared and decorated the cake and cupcakes for their wedding. When Angela gets married in the near future she said, “I plan for her to make my cake and cupcakes on my wedding day as well.”
The inseparable pair loves baking cupcakes, and their most popular flavor combination is Peanut Butter Chocolate. Their recipe box doesn’t stop at cupcakes, though… it includes: whoopie pies, cake pops, pretzels, cookies, cakes and more.
As the twins continue to grow, it is possible they might move one day, but they plan to continue Twin.Cakes out of one of their homes. For now, they are keeping traditions alive, and expand their business side by side right where it all started: Home.
