SBSI Employees Shine with Spirited Participation at MECTA Track Meet

We're thrilled to share a glimpse of the excitement and camaraderie from the recent track meet held on July 20th, where our very own Saco & Biddeford Savings employees showcased their athletic prowess.

The event, hosted by the Maine Corporate Track Association (MECTA), has become a staple for companies across Maine to engage in friendly track and field competition. This two-month season offers a unique platform for employees to champion fitness and teamwork within their local workforce.

In MECTA's 2024 season, an impressive roster of 370 athletes aged 18-92 from 14 teams participated, showcasing the enduring appeal and community spirit of the event.

The event is open to all employees and their families, welcoming participants aged 18 and above, regardless of their experience level. From beginners taking their first strides to seasoned runners, the track meet was a celebration of inclusivity and sportsmanship.

The competition was fierce across various disciplines, including long-distance events like the 5K, mile, and 800-meter run, as well as sprints such as the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes. Athletes also competed in hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, and javelin, showcasing their versatile talents.

One of the highlights of the meet was the exhilarating relay races, which always prove to be crowd-pleasers. Our team members had outstanding performances:

John Mondor (Director of Marketing & Customer Experience) hurdled his way to victory in his age division, while Josh Sewall (Seasonal Teller) sprinted to success, winning the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes.

John's father Paul Mondor triumphed in the 100-meter dash for his age division, and Chris Walton (son of Saco Market Manager Shawn Walton) dominated the 800-meter run.

Congratulations to all participants for their exceptional efforts and achievements. Your hard work and team spirit continue to make us proud!
