“The simple act of caring is heroic.” - Edward Albert
The first thing my longtime customer ... and now good friend ... Rich Meoli thought to do when he woke up Friday morning was fire off a text asking how things went the night before, when I threw out the first pitch at the Sea Dogs game.
Well, since there were five ceremonial first pitches, technically mine may have been the fifth pitch. 😂
“Fired a fastball right into the glove … on a skip … lol,” I texted back. “Oh well, it’s been 10 years since I’ve thrown a baseball!”
My friend Dan Tilton, CEO of Skowhegan Savings Bank, texted me the attached picture and said, “Looked like a strike to me.”
My wife said, “You haven’t thrown a baseball in a long time ... don’t be so hard on your 62-year-old-self. You were a good baseball player.”
And, maybe worse still, at 6:25am my longtime co-worker and friend Wayne Johnson sent me the actual video of me firing the ball into the dirt. Painful.
What is better than friends to share a laugh with, especially when it is at our own expense.
And honestly, that’s part of the beauty of life.
Life is better when we don’t take ourselves too seriously and can laugh at the moments when we come up a little short.
Life is remarkable when we surround ourselves with people who think of us first thing in the morning and simply check in.
And life becomes truly meaningful when we are the ones reaching out ... at the beginning or end of someone’s day ... to let them know they matter, they’re valued and they’re being thought about.
Wishing you all a great day ahead.
