For eight years, the Maine Fraud Prevention Alliance (MFPA) has been committed to educating and protecting the public against fraud. This mission has been especially critical in Maine – a state with an aging and vulnerable population.
Spearheaded by the leadership of Saco & Biddeford Savings, the Alliance created the DASH Fraud program, a simple yet effective approach for individuals to implement preventative measures to defend themselves from scams and fraudulent activity.
To date, the Alliance has grown to 20 member organizations, and the DASH Fraud method has assisted countless Mainers in providing a first line of defense against criminals.
But leading the Alliance has also been challenging. Fraud is constantly evolving – and the bank’s role of developing new content with relevant, up-to-date information for consumers has been difficult to maintain.
With this in mind, Saco & Biddeford Savings has made the difficult decision to step aside from its leadership role and discontinue the MFPA, effective September 1, 2020.
I would like to thank each Alliance member organization for their commitment and solidarity in working to mitigate fraud in our communities across the state. While the Alliance will no longer remain active, Saco & Biddeford Savings continues to stand against fraud and supports prevention and awareness efforts. Despite the Alliance’s work, fraud remains a consistent threat – and awareness, education and prevention endure as the best remedies. That will never change.
If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding this decision, please contact our Community Relations Coordinator, Amanda Lutz, via email.
Sincerely,
Bob Quentin
