When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it was initially a culture shock for most. Landry’s Shop N Save General Manager, Louis Grenier, sat down with the owner and management team to strategize and plan in order to move forward proactively, not reactively.
In February of 2020, the team of associates, management and the owner banded together to implement the recommendations from the CDC which included installing plexiglass screens in check-out lanes, extensive deep cleaning and temperature checks of employees upon arrival to work. Louis said, “Our associates really stepped up. We worked with them to make sure they were comfortable at work, and at home. They’ve worked long, extra hours and have persisted with flexibility.”
The community has remained loyal. They’ve shown their patience and support, and they have expressed their gratitude for keeping the store going, giving them what they need and thinking outside the box. “The bakery and produce have seen some of the most tangible changes,” Louis said, “because we had to eliminate single serving items like muffins, donuts and pastries. We got creative with packaging and discounts to continue to offer those items while adapting to the changes and recommendations. We’ve even put gloves in the produce department so those interested in bulk produce can feel comfortable grabbing what they need.”
Thank you, Landry’s Shop N Save, for being the #HeartAndSoulOfTheCommunity. Stay tuned for part 2!
