When I walked into work today and found my office like this, I couldn’t stop laughing… It’s a tradition we started a while ago here at our Saco & Biddeford Savings Westbrook branch location. We like to think of it as an office-prank celebration. Today marks my 20-year employee anniversary, which is why my office looks this way today.
In the past, we’ve filled employees' offices with balloons and put sticky notes all over desks. It’s all in good fun and it really makes you feel appreciated and cared for. I really like working here because it does feel like you’re always surrounded by family.
A relative of mine actually used to work at the bank and was the one who informed me they were hiring. I was headed to the South Portland branch to fill out an application, but I was so unfamiliar with the area that I got lost and didn’t end up going there.
When I reached out to explain, they let me know the job was still available and soon after, I found my way there and applied. I was later interviewed and accepted the position as teller. I worked at the South Portland branch for six years, and over time moved my way up and to AVP, Assistant Branch Manager here at our Westbrook branch.
I’m the last of the original crew that started working at this branch 14 year ago. It’s kind of cool to know I came here when it hadn’t been opened yet and that I was able to start with a fresh customer base. Being at this branch also means I’m closer to home, which I really appreciate.
I love knowing that if I ever needed a shoulder to lean on, my SBSI team would be there for me. We have all gone through tough times, and we try to be there for each other however we can. I haven’t necessarily worked for a lot of other places in my career, but I get the feeling it’s not like this everywhere. There’s a care and concern I feel from my co-workers that I’m just so grateful for each and every day.
