I’m originally from western New York, but when I was a kid, we used to take summer family trips to visit the northeast. I’ve always loved being in this part of the country. The people are nice and there’s so much to do; it’s why I chose to live here.
I joined Just for Kids Pediatric Dentistry in 2014 after completing my pediatric residency program, and have since become co-owner alongside Dr. Michael McCoy. I’ve always gravitated toward working with kids, so specializing in pediatric dentistry felt like the right decision for me.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child's first visit to the dentist be when they first start to have a tooth grow in, or by the age of one, whichever is first. Those recommended visits allow us to address and educate families on preventative care; early appointments, conversations, and starting good habits can help mitigate the risk of developing cavities and needing fillings.
Some children are anxious about getting a filling, while others may be nervous about getting a cleaning. Each child is different, and we strive to treat every child as the unique individual they are. The most challenging, but subsequently rewarding, part of my job is being able to calm down an anxious child and then see them get excited about coming back.
It’s important to take the time to talk with kids about what we’re doing, and show them how cleanings or treatment are done before we start. Our office does everything we can to make their visit a positive experience.
We care about our patients, their families, and our community, and we try to make each appointment fun and engaging. We hold quarterly art contests for our patients, sponsor local sports teams and events, and educate at community outreaches. We also dedicate a charity to raise donations for each month. Currently, our practice and families are raising money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
We want to be a resource that lifts people up. Even more, we want to be a place where kids feel comfortable and supported. We always strive to put big smiles on little faces.
