John Mondor Celebrates 15 Years at SBSI

This August, John Mondor is celebrating his 15 years with Saco & Biddeford Savings!

While John officially joined the bank full-time in 2011, his SBSI story actually began several years earlier. In 2007, he started as a Seasonal Teller, returning each summer throughout his college years. After graduating, he entered a challenging job market in the wake of the 2008 recession. Like many recent graduates at the time, he explored a variety of opportunities but struggled to find a role that felt like the right fit.

As summer came to an end in 2011, SBSI worked to find a place for him within the organization. John began as a utility employee in September, giving him the opportunity to gain experience across multiple departments while developing a broader understanding of how the bank operated.

Soon after, an opening became available in the Marketing Department. He applied, was selected, and officially began his marketing career at SBSI in January 2012 as a Marketing Assistant.

From creating flyers and posters to managing website content and graphic design projects, his early role offered hands-on experience across nearly every aspect of marketing.

Having studied New Media in college, he naturally gravitated toward design work, which eventually became a primary focus of his role. As his responsibilities evolved, so did his title. Over the years, John served as Design Coordinator, Marketing Officer, and eventually moved into management in 2018.

Today, John serves as SVP, Customer Experience & Communications and helps to shape how the bank serves customers and supports employees. Much of his work centers around understanding customer needs, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping to create experiences that provide meaningful value.

One aspect of SBSI that has remained especially meaningful to him is the organization's commitment to the community.

"The community relations piece is really rewarding," he said. "Seeing the impact of donations, volunteer efforts, and community partnerships every day is part of what makes working here feel so special."

Looking back, John credits his early experiences across multiple departments with helping him build a deeper understanding of the organization. During his time as a utility employee, he spent time in residential lending, commercial banking, and several other areas of the bank.

One memory that still makes him laugh comes from his time in commercial banking.
"I told Eric Doyon that I studied New Media, and he said, 'Well, what are you doing here then?'"
Years later, the two work closely together, with John supporting lending initiatives and marketing efforts across the organization.

When asked about the biggest lesson he's learned throughout his career, John's answer wasn't about marketing, banking, or leadership. Instead, it was about people.

"The people you surround yourself with at work make a huge difference," he said. "When everything is clicking and the team is working together, it feels like nothing can stop us."

Those relationships have remained one of the most rewarding parts of his journey. Whether reconnecting with customers he hasn't spoken to in years or reflecting on his early days working on the teller line, it's the people and connections he's built along the way that stand out most.

Outside of work, John stays active in both his community and personal interests. He serves as Vice President of the Maine Corporate Track Association, an organization he became involved with after helping establish the bank's participation in the corporate track league and fostering the sense of camaraderie that comes with it.

He also enjoys coaching T-Ball, reading, playing bass, and spending time with his mini Australian Shepherd, Vivi, and his daughter, Elodie.

As John celebrates 15 years with Saco & Biddeford Savings, his story reflects the value of growth, adaptability, curiosity, and strong relationships. From seasonal employee to executive leadership, his journey is a testament to the opportunities that can emerge when talent, dedication, and a willingness to learn come together.

Thank you for the lasting impact you've made on SBSI, our customers, employees, and communities over the past 15 years. We're grateful for all you've contributed and look forward to what's ahead!
