Katrina Desjardins is celebrating her 15-year work anniversary here at Saco & Biddeford Savings!
While studying business at Southern Maine Community College, Katrina was feeling uncertain as to which field she should pursue after graduating. Some of her friends who worked in banking suggested she give it a try.
Taking their advice into consideration, Katrina decided to apply to work at SBSI. She had been a customer of this bank since she was two years old, thanks to her mother.
“I’ve always enjoyed the warmth of this bank. I believe that it’s rare to find that kind of atmosphere in financial environments, which is what makes this place pretty special to me.”
In 2005, Katrina was hired as a teller in Saco by then Saco Branch Manager Lynne Belanger, who recently retired after an impressive 46 years of service.
“I remember being in awe of how Lynne led such a large branch that has been around for almost 200 years now.”
Working in Customer Care and Digital Banking at the Operations Center played a crucial role in Katrina's career development. Understanding the needs of customers and having knowledge of the bank's products are skills she still utilizes today as Westbrook's Market Manager.
One of Katrina's most cherished positions prior to joining Westbrook was being an Assistant Branch Manager in Old Orchard Beach. The vibrant atmosphere of the beach during the summer was matched by the energy of her coworkers, creating so many memorable experiences.
What Katrina finds particularly special about SBSI is the strong relationships she has formed with her coworkers and the long tenure of employees.
Her mentor, Carolyn Lamontagne, who previously served as the Old Orchard Beach Market Manager, also retired after an impressive 42 years.
Katrina learned a great deal from Carolyn and appreciates the shared experiences they had together as co-workers, including celebrating milestones, births, deaths, marriages and more.
“People at the bank are supportive. You can celebrate each other’s successes and it doesn’t feel like a revolving door.”
During her free time, Katrina enjoys reading, skiing throughout the winter, playing indoor soccer, traveling and spending quality time with her family.
