Saco & Biddeford Savings, in partnership with Mill Studio Arts, recently hosted the Piggy Bank Maker Space — a family‑friendly event centered on creativity, connection, and community.
Saco & Biddeford Savings has long been rooted in the communities it serves, and that commitment was on full display during the Piggy Bank Maker Space, hosted alongside Mill Studio Arts in Biddeford. Now in its third year, the event welcomed families into a safe, welcoming space where kids and caregivers could slow down, get creative, and spend meaningful time together.
The Piggy Bank Maker Space is intentionally offered as a free weekend event, making it accessible to families looking for engaging, hands‑on activities. With all supplies provided and guidance available, families were encouraged to simply show up and create side by side.
At Mill Studio Arts, creativity is about more than producing a finished piece — it’s about the process. Art is viewed as a language: a way for children to explore ideas, express curiosity, and work through thoughts and feelings in a tangible, whole‑body way. Whether through paint, clay, or drawing, creativity gives kids a chance to connect with themselves and the world around them differently than they might through writing or conversation.
For many of the kids who attended, art is their thing — just as meaningful as sports teams or clubs. Spaces like the Piggy Bank Maker Space give them room to show up fully as themselves, supported by trusted adults and surrounded by peers.
