Pristine Cleaning Nominated for Heartbeat of our Community Award

When Pristine Cleaning first came to fruition in 2017, Owner Tyler Pendleton was running his small company out of a guest bedroom in his apartment. Nearly three years and two locations later, he now runs his successful business out of an office located on Main Street in Biddeford.

“I saw a big opportunity in our area and a need for a reliable, professional cleaning company,” he said, explaining that his young age amplified his eagerness to take on the project.

Pristine Cleaning separates itself into two different divisions of business: House cleaning and exterior cleaning. Indoor house cleaning services take place year-round on a scheduled basis. Exterior cleaning, done outside, includes roof cleaning, house washing and window cleaning.

“Almost 70 percent of our business is house cleaning, but having two sides to the business is a nice combination. It allows us to be a cleaning service that offers all-in-one so our clients don’t have to go looking elsewhere.”

In February of 2020, he moved the business to its current location. He didn’t know it then, but in less than a month, the COVID-19 pandemic was about to challenge everything he knew about running a business.

That year, he said, they saw a very large decrease in revenue as clients started pausing services. Left to pay a rent almost five times more than what he had been paying at his prior office and stuck with other large expenses and business overhead, they were forced to lay off employees as they worked on a game plan of how to move forward

“We shifted very quickly to provide responsible services so we could continue operating in homes,” he said. “By adding new disinfectant methods and following COVID protocol, we were able to do the job safely and our clients were confident in having us in their homes.”

The goal of Pristine Cleaning, Tyler said, is to protect the health and homes of the community. By taking on the daunting task of cleaning for his clients, he hopes that it brings peace of mind and ease to each client they serve.

Besides ensuring his clients are satisfied with the services they provide, Tyler puts a huge importance on the health and well-being of his employees. Without them, he explained, the business wouldn’t be as successful as it is.

“I always like to say our employees are our number one client,” Tyler said. “They are the driving force behind why we are here and how far we’ve gotten. How we are perceived is based on the personalities each client meets, and not necessarily the people in the office. The team does a wonderful job of treating clients right and they really care about providing good service.”

By offering benefits and other opportunities that other entry level position jobs may not provide, Tyler believes it helps Pristine Cleaning stand out as an employer in the community.

“A lot of our team members are just starting their careers. We provide them with a nice, stable first job and give them the opportunity to progress until they are ready to move onto the next step in their life.”

For Tyler, community is the most important aspect of his business model. Building meaningful relationships with people is important to him, not just in the business world but in his day-to-day life.

“We want to do what’s right. Every step of our business model ensures we operate with integrity, and in a way that others can look up to,” he said.
