Welcoming Spring Through the Stories of SBSI Employees

With the first day of spring arriving on March 20, we asked our employees to share photos and a few words about what the season means to them. From fresh beginnings to familiar Maine traditions, their responses reflect the many ways spring shows up in our lives.

Spring Means New Beginnings

For Branch Operations Manager Kathleen Grenier, spring is a season filled with hope and possibility.

“To me, spring means new beginnings,” she shared. “The world is coming alive again and is filled with so much potential and positivity to start anew.”

It’s a simple but powerful reminder of the fresh start that spring brings each year.

Tracy Mahoney, Customer Relationship Officer, shared photos of her son, Shea, clamming at Pine Point Beach during that familiar in‑between time Mainers know well — mud season.

Muck boots, a light jacket, and a big smile captured the moment perfectly. “Knowing that spring is almost here,” she said, makes those muddy days worth it.

After a long winter, spring in Maine means the outdoors begin to stir again.

For President & CEO Mark Jones, one of the best parts of the season is watching the woods come back to life. Seeing young wildlife explore their habitat for the first time is a sure sign that warmer days are ahead and nature is waking up once more.

Opening Day Tradition

For Vice President - Personal Lines at Paquin & Carroll Insurance Lynnsey McDonough and her family, spring means one thing above all else — the start of Red Sox season!

Attending Opening Day is a tradition they look forward to every year. In 2026, Opening Day falls on April 3, making it an exciting milestone that officially ushers in spring for baseball fans.

Tammy Perkins shared photos filled with family time and favorite coastal spots — from York Beach to vacation memories with loved ones. For her, spring is about moving forward each day with hope, faith, and gratitude, embracing the moments that matter most.

Sophie Bredensteiner, Customer Relationship Associate, shared a photo of their dog Cinder enjoying the nicer weather — while still standing in melting snow, grass just starting to peek through. While it may not be the most colorful spring scene, it perfectly captures Maine’s annual “false spring,” a familiar and hopeful transition we all recognize.

Together, these photos and reflections highlight that spring isn’t just a season — it’s a feeling. One shaped by renewal, tradition, family, and optimism for what’s ahead. We’re grateful to everyone who shared what spring means to them and helped us welcome the season together.
