Cozy, Budget-Friendly Fall Décor Ideas to Warm Up Your Home

Crysta C. Frost By Crysta C. Frost

“Come on in, everything little thing is gonna be alright.” When you walk into a room, isn’t that what you want the space to say?

Fall is a beautiful season: a season of warmth, coziness, and crisp air. To create the fall feelings we love, there are a few simple DIY décor tips you can take that will create the effect you want without breaking the bank.

Here’s a few:

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Did you know that hanging a mirror in a room can make the room feel bigger and brighter? A mirror can easily be enhanced by adding some decoration to the frame. This could be a wreath you hang in the center of the mirror, a piece of garland or twinkling lights draped across the frame, or handmade cutouts such as pumpkins or leaves taped to the edges.

The Power of a Cozy Blanket

Hanging a nicely folded, patterned or solid colored blanket on a chair or sofa immediately adds style to a room and sense of comfort.

Add Some Pillows

Swapping the pillows you have on your sofa or even just the pillowcase covers can create a whole new look for your space.

Bringing outside inside

Acorns, small branches, pumpkins, gourds, leaves, and pinecones are often used for Fall décor. You can create unique center pieces from the elements in nature, such as a bowl of pinecones placed in the center of the dining room table. Many people enjoy painting real leaves with acrylic paint to add some ‘oomph’ to a room. You can sprinkle these painted leaves across a fireplace mantel, center of a dining room table, or place them on doorway frames.

Antique Store Shopping

Antique stores and flea markets have so many affordable objects to decorate a room. Take a trip to one of several locations in Maine, including the Arundel Antique Village Group Shop in Arundel, Dunbar and Sons Antiques & Vintage in Limington, Hidden Treasures in York or The Willows Flea Market in Mechanic Falls, and you’re sure to take home something that will add pizazz your space.

No matter what type of décor you choose, make sure the space makes you happy! As American interior designer Albert Hadley once said, “Decorating is not about making stage sets, it’s not about making pretty pictures for the magazines, it’s really about creating a quality of life, a beauty that nourishes the soul.”

Happy Decorating!
